New Ford Driver Assistance Features Offer Even Easier Parking, Crash Avoidance

Can a Ford Vehicle Park Itself?

Advanced Active Park Assist

Thanks to new advanced active park assist, Ford vehicles will be able to practically park themselves. By controlling steering, gear selection, and forward and back movement, this system will allow an equipped Ford vehicle to park either perpendicularly, or in a parallel parking spot at the touch of a button. This will take a lot of the stress out of complicated city and town parking.

We’re not sure which vehicles will feature this technology, but we are hopeful that this driver assistance feature will be available on several vehicles in our new Ford inventory by 2017.

Other Advanced Driver Assistance Features In Development

While we are very excited about advanced active park assist on Ford vehicles, there are tons of driver assistance feature in the pipeline that should help make drivers’ lives easier. Some of them include:

  • Cross-traffic alert with braking technology – This system allows vehicles to detect pedestrians, objects and vehicles in the area when leaving a parking space.
  • Evasive steering assist – While features like automatic braking can help to minimize accidents, sometimes there isn’t enough time for braking to avoid a collision. With evasive steering assist, Ford vehicles can help drivers maneuver around slow or stopped vehicles to avoid accidents.
  • Wrong-way alert technology – It can be easy to turn down a wrong-way street. With new wrong-way alert technology, drivers can get an immediate warning when they are driving against the flow of traffic.
  • Advanced front lighting – It can be difficult to see around curves or on roundabouts, but this technology will use cameras to interpret signs and automatically widen the headlight beam so drivers can see more easily.

Ford vehicles are already available with features like adaptive cruise control, the BLIS Blind Spot Information System and lane departure warnings with lane-keeping assistance.
