How Should I Clean the Inside of My Car?

Vehicle Cleaning and Disinfecting Tips

Cleaning your vehicle will help keep your car looking nice and hold its value. Disinfecting once in a while will also help keep you and your passengers from getting sick. Here are a few tips so you can properly clean the inside of your car.

Remove Clutter

Before you begin your cleaning and disinfecting process, you should remove any items lying around, such as any garbage, toys, and old receipts. Decide what you would like to keep and what you would like to throw out. Recycle any recyclables you want to get rid of.

Vacuum the Mats, Floor, and Seats

Getting the inside of your car dirty is natural. You may have had those days where you had to eat a quick bite in the car as you didn’t have time to sit down at home or at a restaurant. It’s likely you tracked in some dirt or gravel onto the mat or floor as you got into your vehicle. The best way to get rid of these crumbs and dirt is to use a mobile vacuum. Vacuum the seats and work your way down. Be sure to shake the mats outside of your vehicle before vacuuming the floors and mats.

Deep Clean with Shampoo

If you don’t have any stains on your floors or seats, you can skip this step. However, if you want to remove some stains or disinfect the cabin, then you will want to deep clean with shampoo. Find a shampoo solution that is designed for vehicles. You can find special car shampooing machines in stores if you want an easy shampooing process. Otherwise, if you prefer to save some cash and put the work in, spray the solution in small areas and scrub with a soft-bristled brush or sponge. Don’t soak the seats or floors.

Disinfect Hard Surfaces

Let’s face it, you can’t drive without touching essential components like the steering wheel and seat buckle. Use a disinfecting wipe to disinfect hard surfaces including the dashboard and doors.

Clean the Glass

While you’re at it, see if your windshield and glass windows need cleaning. If so, grab some Windex and paper towel to clean any smudges and dirt on the glass.
