We’ve already touched on the all-new 2020 Silverado HD models, following the Silverado 1500 into the fourth generation a year after it was completely redesigned. Now, we figured we’d highlight the Silverado 1500. Naturally, not a ton has changed in the model considering it was just redesigned last year. However, it does feature a new powertrain option, an all-new Duramax turbo-diesel engine, on which we figured you’d like the fuel economy details.

3.0L Duramax Turbo-diesel Engine Specs & Capabilities
The new engine manages to generate an SAE-certified 277 horsepower alongside 460 pound-feet of torque, which enables the Silverado 1500 to haul a max payload of 1,870 pounds and tow an additional 9,300 lbs. behind it.
Power isn’t what’s most exciting about a turbo-diesel engine though, it’s the incredible fuel economy the diesel engine enables the heavy truck to achieve. When equipped with the standard rear-wheel drive system, the Silverado Duramax achieves 33 miles per gallon on the highway and 23 mpg through the city. Upgrading to four-wheel drive only drops things down to 29 mpg highway and 23 mpg city.
