What’s the Difference Between AWD and 4WD?
For many drivers, when they here AWD or 4WD, they basically think they’re the same thing. That may be sort of true but ignores some key differences between the two. For starters, AWD is always functioning as the default mode, there’s no switching on and off for drivers. 4WD, on the other hand, is something drivers can use at their discretion whether it’s because of off-road terrain or, for example, taking the boat out of the water. This is why AWD is generally found in cars and SUVs and 4WD is more common in pickup trucks.
